I am planning to relocate a basement heating/AC vent in a soon to be remodled basement. At the present time, I have a vent at the bottom of the basement stairs directly off the furnace and when the heat is on it travels directly up the stairs to the first floor, leaving the basement cold. (Door to the basement cannot be kept closed due to pets.) My plan is to block off existing vent and relocate (1 or 2) vents to far corner of the room.
My question is, can/should I install a cold air return directly off the furnace in the basement to allow warm air to stay in the newly remodled area or would this interfere with pre-designed flow of air circulation? I'm figuring more is better than not enough.
