Code 31 with carrier weathermaker 9200 58mxa

I've been having trouble with this furnace, I had a furnace company out and to get it going (it was about ) deg.)we had to unplug a couple of vacuum hose to the pressure switch and disconect the outside intake pipe for it to run, I got a new pressure switch and put it on, now what it does when I turn it on it fires fine, no code, then it cycles off and 10-15 minutes later it cycles on with the 31 code again ,it only purges this cycle then it stops without ignition and 10-15 minutes later it cycles on and fires great, no code problem . so is there a purge cycle on this furnace so it only fires every other cycle.

Check the condensate drain for a blockage. Sounds like water is backing up and when it sits it drains down and will allow the furnace to run for a short time.

You may have a bad secondary heat exchanger.....they have a very high fail rate.....here is what to look for....
this is an actual picture of a failed secondary on a carrier 58 sx

That is clean and no water build up, Does this furnace have a purge cycle when the burner doesn't start or should it be firing every time.
It is working now , the house is warn and cozy but it has to cycle twice to get one heat cycle. Am I making this clear enough. I'm a little week on terminology.

you CAN NOT see this area with out useing a high resolution in-fared HVAC camara......it is above or below (depending on your furnace oreintation) the blower.

Hey Harley
Infra red???
Wouldn't a regular camera scope with a high intensity light show the same view of the heat exchanger that is posted?

Also that class action suit was up on aug 1 2008 ,I was never sent anything about that, was it my responsibility to find that out myself . My income doesn't include getting my furnace checked every year. I had a service man here I have no idea how qualified he was. I owe him money for coming out when it first went down. Do I call a carrier serviceman .

It has one purge cycle where it doesn't like giving me a 31 and 10-15 minute later it cycles and heats just fine. Is this ok or not.

i have made claims on that suit as close as 9 months ago, so i am assuming they extended it? I know for a fact that carrier is (was) still paying labor to replace them (have to jump through several hoops) as late as this past October. so i guess the moral of this story is.......DO GIVE UP!
