Cleaning an evaporator on A/C system

In our house that we just moved into the ac does not work all that good.I noticed that the people that lived here before installed the wrong size filter.
I work on automobile ac systems so I pretty much know what that will do to a system.
I am wondering,When they build these ac and furnace type systems do they make the evaporator's pretty easy to get to?
Thanks Doug

Should be a front panel held by 1/4" screws. this will access the top side of the coil.you may have to get around the flue chimny if it in the way.
