Chromotherm III Wiring
Need to install Model T8600C1196 from a Carrier Weathermaster III F/A heatpump/ac system c/w gas supplementary heat to a Carrier F/A heat pump/ac system c/w electric supplementary heat. Original wiring was to W, G, R, Rc and Y screws with O, C, B vacant. Can I assume I need to connect electric HP wiring white to W, green to G, red to R, ? to Rc, and yellow to Y? Remaining wires are orange, black, purple, brown, blue.
Please advise if this is feasible and the correct wiring. Thanx!!! |
I don't see how you could have run a heat pump with supplemental heat with just W,G,R,Rc and Y. W brings on the heat relay, R is common power, Rc is common power from the cooling transformer, and Y energizes the cooling relay, there was nothing to bring on the reversing valve. A heat pump needs o or b to bring on the reversing valve relay depending on changeover configuration. Post back with models numbers of all equipment you are trying to hook up.

Chromotherm wiring
Thanx Big Mike> I now recall that the same TS was originally used to control a heat pump/ac and then modified AFTER the heat pump was disconnected (due to erratic operation) and converted to a straight ac function. I surmise the tech removed the O, C and B screws to reflect this. I will post back the data on the electric furnace (in another building!) that I am trying to install the Chromo III to. Can I assume the wiring color codes are standard as to function?
Appreciate your interest. |
Color codes not so much standard, terminal designations yes. Colors depend on what the installer had to work with.

Chromo III Wiring
Greetings Big Mike: Just back from extended vacation. Target electric furnace is Carrier Mod. 40AQ01831080 Ser: 0990A06708. Existing theromstat connections at furnace are: Wh to C; Blue to E; Blk to W2; Red to R; and Green to G; W3, Y, O, V2 and L are vacant. The Chromo III has O, W, G, C, R, Rc, B, and Y connection posts. Can you advise correct wiring at thermo end? Much appreciated.
