checking the oil in a residential compressor

hey I just replace the compressor on an old trainer residential unit. I think 1 of my workers must of turn the compressor sideways when installing it, there is oil all over the floor of the condensing unit. how do I check the oil level of a hermetically sealed compressor?

You can't. You would have to remove the compressor, remove the oil, and then replace the oil with the recommended amount.

Trane uses their own oil so I don't know if off the shelf oil would mix well with it.
