Changing to digital thermostat-difficult?

Hi,
I'd like to change to old thermostats in my house to digital ones that I can set times and temps on. Is this a difficult thing to change out myself?
Thanks.

Changing to digital thermostat-difficult?

It depends on your heating/cooling system. Mine was only two wires.

It is only hooked up to our heating system which is an oil run boiler.
I havent take off the current thermostat yet so I dont know how many wires there may be. Do I need to do that before buying a new one?

You probably have a round style thermostat. I'll bet there are only two wires for yours as well. Electronic ones are universal.

Thanks! Yes it is a round thermostat. So if that is the case it should be fairly straight forward with 2 wires? Might you have a suggestion for a brand name that is well thought of?

If it is in fact a two wire stat then it is not controlling an AC, look for a heating only digital thermostat and it will be easier to hook up.

Your welcome. With the heat only t-stat you will not have the useless, in your case, heat-off-cool switch on the thermostat either.

Do they make heat only ones that are programmable ...because that is the main reason why I want to change it out. And because it's pretty old.

Very straight forward to hook this up. Two wires connect to the thermostat. Programming the unit is harder. But not very hard.
