Change type of filter

Not sure if this is possible or worth the cost, but can the type of furnace filter you have be changed? I have the huge pain in the butt accordion type that are hard to find (Carrier). I also hear these restrict airflow more. If it's possible do I just change the housing between the return air and furnace unit? Any help greatly appreciated.

Those are VERY good filters and it is probably made by Aprilaire for them. That Amazon price looks good so I would continue to use it. It increases not reduces airflow because it has more surface area and less pressure drop. We sell them on 95% of our furnaces.

Thanks Yuri. It helps to know airflow isn't an issue. I sure wish I had a normal sized filter though, cause it's Amazon/FiltersNow or bust. I can't find these in any hardware stores. Just makes me worried they'll be gone or price will spike.

Its one of the least restrictive media filters available.

I highly doubt they will disappear. Looks like a standard Aprilaire filter. Carrier and Lennox do not own filter companies. They sub it out to AAF or another major filter co. Hardware stores do not sell them. Only the cardboard cartridge type. Not enough demand and they take up too much shelf space.
