CArrier WeatherMaker 9200 Code 31

This is intermittent, It will run great for a few weeks, but then it will shutdown right after indecuer starts to run, then fault code 31. Induce was tested and is working fine. This has been going on for a few winters now, but seems to be more frequent this year. I replaced the pressure switch last year and after a few weeks it happened again. Any suggestions.

If it was a blocked vent, then would it not work all the time, not intermittently.

A partial restriction can be effected by wind.

there is a good possibility that there could be a sag in the exhaust piping. this will collect water and cause the p/s to drop out intermittently. Ensure exhaust is installed with proper slope back to the furnace

Vent piping is straigh with a good pitch, also was checked by an HVAC company. How would I know if there was a draft or not? Also I keep talking to this local HVAC company and the owner keeps insisting that it may be the heat exchanger failing, but last winter I had them check the CO level and it never broke 25 which was really good. Also wouldn't the heat exchanger just fail and not cause an intermittent problem. Thanks for all the tips so far.

Low CO doesn't mean it isn't cracked. Many cracked heat exchangers have low CO.
Yes, it could cause intermittent problems.

If it is cracked the crack will expand and contract with the heat cycle and sometimes it may stay open enough to trip the pressure switch. I get 0 Zero ppm CO readings in homes with a Pro tester and even getting 25 would be a cause for concern for me. I thought they pull the fan on those units and could see water stains on the secondary exchanger if it was a faulty one. Have not run into one myself.

It is difficult to tell if this would be a heat exchanger problem. Are ther any other signs I could look for at all. The unit never shuts off until it has reached its temp setting, it works farily well most of the time. ALso if this is a heat exchanger problem, is it safe to wait until it would completely fail to replace? I just hate paying money to fix something if I am not 100% it is the problem.

If it is a heat exchanger problem then it need to be repaired immediately. A cracked or leaking heat exchanger leaves the possibility for Carbon Monoxide to enter your living space. Can you really put a $$$ amount on your or your family's life?

I had them check the CO levels in the house the last time the HVAC repair company was here, there was no reading. But this is a good point thank you.
