Carrier Infinity fault message help needed

I've had a couple of occasions where I awoke in the morning to find a system fault message on my Carrier Infinity thermostat. The most recent message said something like "33 - Limit Fault, 198 Entries Active." I had no idea what this meant, if it was serious, etc. I tried to clear the message from the display but wasn't able to do it. Not knowing what else to try I turned off the power to my furnace and then turned it back on. When I looked at the display the fault message was gone.

I called Carrier support to ask them what I should do in circumstances like this. Basically what they said was that I should call my furnace service company. A call for service will typically cost $80 - $100, and it could get pretty expensive to have to do this each time a message appears.

I'm trying to find out if there are typical fault codes that I can take care of by myself without having to get a service technician. Since the fault code cleared with a power cycle of the furnace I'm trying to find out if that is something I should always try first and then see if the code returns before calling for help. I'd appreciate any information about how to deal with these codes as well as what might have caused a "33 - Limit Fault" and if this is something I need to be concerned about.

poor airflow thru the furnace. dirty air filter, undersized ductwork, closed vents, dirty underside of an AC coil. that can SERIOUSLY damage that furnace and shorten it's life.

Is there some resource that lists other common issues associated with Carrier fault messages? Having the info you provided is useful for Fault 33 but it would be nice to know what other typical fault codes might mean.

The only info I found for the stat lists code 33 as "Limit circuit fault AND high heat only is active".
I'm not sure what that means, maybe someone else has an idea. Google SYSTXCCUID01 and you'll see the installation instruction PDF, the fault codes are at the end.
