Carrier Furnace not completing startup
Hi folks,
The cold weather is starting to arrive and I thought I'd test out my furnace to make sure it was ready. Unfortunately, it appears not. Carrier gas furnace 58PHA090 installed about 1.5 years ago, upon calling for heat kicks on the draft inducer fan and then lights up the hot surface ignitor for few few seconds and then no ignition at the burners. The ignitor turns off and the draft inducer spins down. Repeat sequence. No flashing error code on the main board (LED is on solid), checked all wiring connections tight, checked the gas valve is open, switch on the gas valve is in the "on" position. Any help is appreciated! |

I'd Check if you have gas and if your gas valve is getting 24V after the igniter lights up.
But... Your furnace should be giving you a fault led code so either the thermostat is shutting down at the same time over & over (highly unlikely) or your control board is the problem. |

check the tubes on the induced draft motor fan section and that pressure switch with one tube into it lightly blow on the tube(simulating IDM run)should close/click then open...remove the stat and jump your R to W so you have a solid call for heat the IDM is the first item to run constantly thru a heating cycle....use the furnace 115V service switch to cycle the heating cycle till you get the main burner

OK - thanks for the tips, will take a look a little later today. The last time I had something like this happening the unit would light the burners and then shut down and repeat the sequence. It turned out to have a dirty temp sensor. I'm wondering if the gas valve isn't opening, it's acting just like it's not getting any fuel to the burners. Will report back the results....

1.5 years old likely has a part warranty, call your installer back.

Yep, gas valve was stuck closed and wouldn't respond to the 24V signal. Replaced under parts warranty, unit is back up and running. Thanks everyone!
