carrier furnace issues

I have a carrier furnace model #58SSC055 and it goe throught the cycle but does not ignite.

I start with the main blower fan running then the exhaust fan runs it make a clicking sound and I smell gas then the gas smell goes away and the exhaust fans stops running but the main blower continues to run.

In the past when I have watch the furnace start there is a ignitor that turns red hot. This is not happening.

Any help would be great.

Thanks

sounds like you need to replace the hot surface ignitor to confirm pull the wire harness apart for the ignitor and you can either read for continuity thru the ignitor or you can turn off the gas valve and read for 115 volts when the unit gos into the ignition sequence, right before the gas valve opens(read at the furnace side of the ignitor harness)

you say you "start" with the blower running are you turning off the 115v every time between cycles? if so than its normal(i am only referring to the blower running for 90 sec) its the purge cycle

kennzz05,

I did what you said and pulled the wire harness apart and read the 122 volts when the unit went into the ignition sequence. And I also did the continuity test and that also showed that there was none.

Any sugguestions on where to go for part?

Thanks for the help.

some supply houses sell generic replacements remove your old one and take it with you if you live in the east try googleing r e michaels

note the ignitors are very very very very very( get it ?) fragile dont let it bump into anything as your removeing it itll shatter as well as with the new one it you get one that looks the same but the plugs are differant cut the plug off you old ign and cut the new plug off as well and wirenut your old plug to the new one

where do you live is it really cold right now and do you have portable heaters i can tell you how to lite the furnace manually but it will only last till the next cycle
