Carrier 9200 Weathermaker Won't Start
I have a Carrier 9200 Weathermaker. We recently had a power outage and now the unit won't start. I've checked the 3 amp fuse, and tested the power at the junction box. Both are good.
The LED doesn't light at all and there is now power at the board when I test the ground and any of the other terminals. I've performed the restart procedure several times but nothing is working. Circuit breakers are good and new batteries in the thermostat. Any ideas? I'm STUMPED! |

from the board, next to LINE is X-FMR (BLACK WIRE) other wire from transformer is NEUTRAL (WHITE)
looks like this coming from the transformer should be red and blue wires... may not be...... check voltage there......... when you were checking voltages, I assume you were holding the door switch in

I have 120 volts comming in at the switch next to the unit and NOTHING at the transformer or at PL1 or PL2. Seems like there is NO power at all to the board?

The light switch mounted by the unit. Door switch is being held closed for all testing. the light switch is the on/off switch on the side of the unit (I think)

Power to the door switch is funky! Starts off at 9, 3 or 6 volts then drops to zero. Wont stay at a particular voltage for longer than a second!

check connection after light switch and output of light switch. Are you checking power to ground or neutral?

I pulled the insulators off the wires (black and white) inside the junction box in the unit. Tested white to black with a voltage tester and got 120 VAC. Also checked the plug above the switch that is integral to the unit and that was 120VAC too.

well, follow your wires to the next terminal and keep testing all the way to the board. when you find your voltage drop you'll find your problem

Replace the power/light switch. I have had them get burned contacts inside from old age/arcing or surges. You may get 120 volts but it won't pass any current. Same thing can happen to the breaker for the furnace inside the main electrical panel. Like trying to push water thru a straw.
