carrier 58ssb095ssc heat and air on together

I have a carrier gas furnace with air model 58ssb and the heat and air come on together. found a short in the stat wire. Removed stat wires to check board with jumper. when I test across r and c the blower comes on. When I jump across r and w the heat does not come on. I think all the limits and sensors are working because the unit fires and the fan and outside unit come on when the stat is all wired up. unit has board hh84aa021 and I want to test it. This board was changed last year. Could the shorted stat wire smoke the board ?

Shorting to R and C was the WRONG thing to do.

R and G are for the fan.
