Carrier 58RAV Furnace
I recently noticed that my upstairs unit was not heating. I had a schedule service call schedule when the repairman came out he told me my transformer was bad. so he replaced it, but still nothing. He then told me my control board was shot (HK42FZ009). He did not have a board told me it would need to be ordered at a cost of $600 (plus $150 for the Transformer).

2 questions.
1. I have searched on line for the board and it appears that a new board has been made to replace this one that has extra wires to connect. Is this the correct replacement and can a very good handyman(me) do this.

2. The repairman took the transformer, so I have no idea what transformer I need or how it hooks up. any help here?

There is a retrofit board replacement kit for this furnace. The transformer is a 110 volt primary/24 volt secondary/40 va transformer. There should be fairly detailed instructions with the new board. Is the 3 amp fuse on the circuit board blown. You may not have a bad transformer. Have seen lots of these boards go bad though. Price is kind of high too.

Any idea on a part# for transformer?

Is the retrofit board easy to install?

Does anyone know of a reliable and cheap place to get these parts?
