Carrier 58DHB pilot wont ignite

I have an 18yr old Carrier model 58DHB095 NatGas/AC in my attic. Now, when the thermostat calls for heat, nothing happens. No clicking, no noise at all except at the thermostat. The fan works fine when turned on. I replaced the thermostat buy that didn't fix it.

I have a similar unit in my basement 58GS100 which clicks when igniting. They appear to have the same pilot ignition system. Would replacing this solve the problem or should I check something else before buying the parts? I may try to clean it first. Any help is appreciated.
