Carrier 48GS

Hello all. I have a Carrier 48GS that runs on propane. I was wondering if the smell that comes out of the exhaust is supposed to be strong or is there not supposed to be a smell. The pressure on the unit and it is at or below 3.5. I just want to know if the smell coming from the unit is normal. This is a new unit and the one we had prior didn't create this smell. Thanks for any ideas on the issue.

Carrier 48GS

Hi sjhandy1971

It should not smell strongly of gas. If it does they probably did not install the LP conversion kit. If it has ran for more than a couple of days like this it probably has sooted the heat exchanger up. I would have them get back out there and make sure the LP kit is properly installed and the gas pressure is set correct. The gas pressure should be set at 3.5" water column. The part number for the LP kit is CPLPCONV006A00. Have them get this taken care of immediately.

Good luck
Rusty
