Can't Light Pilot

Hello All,
I have a small secondary Sears furnace at the bottom of my basement stairs. Last winter I turned the gas off to the furnace and now it won't light. I'm sure the gas is turned on. The red button on this pilot doesn't get pushed, but rather rotated. I rotate the button and hold it there for several minutes, but no gas gets to pilot. Any ideas?

Many Thanks,
Russell

Can't Light Pilot

Make sure that you don't have a valve closed. go all the way back to the meter. If you don't here a slight hissing (listen carefully) You're not getting gas.

If you have no gas with plunger pushed down, you may need a new valve. Does the plunger have a resistance to being pushed down?
