Can you still buy cheap pleated paper furnace filters?
I'm looking for cheap, pleated paper furnace filters and I can't find them anywhere. I don't want them for my furnace; I want them for building Alton Brown's beef jerky rig (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dfI0NKl-Kq0). :D
The problem is, the only filters I can find (online, hardware store, big box stores) are at least $8 each and filter out all kinds of allergens. I don't need that kind of filtration here. I'm looking for the $1 paper jobs. Does anyone know if you can still buy them? If so, where might I find them?

Search for "polyester" filters, I haven't seen an actual paper filter for years.

If you want a pleated filter, you won't get one for $0.99.
What he used was the type of filter you see at an orange box. They come singly or in 3 packs. Avoid the 3M filters. Use the cheapest pleated filter they have. Look at a 4 MERV and not the higher rated ones since you want a maximum air flow. They might be able to be used again depending on the contents of the marinade. Since the jerky keeps very well doing a second batch quickly after might be better. Dick |

Thanks for the replies. I now see on orange's web site they have a brand called "True Blue" that are supposed to be about $6 for three. That's a reasonable price to me. $6 for one wouldn't be worth it. I did not see those True Blue ones in my store, though their site says the have them at my store.

I got excited because Grainger has them listed for about $6, ship quantity 12. I then came to learn that "ship quantity" means that I have to order 12 of them at $6 each. I definitely do appreciate the suggestion, though.

Don't know if this is something you're still searching for or not, but we sell Pleated Roll Media...cuts with scissors. Same media found in the MERV8 Pleated filters.

I read, maybe on another forum that the Alton Brown idea might not be a good one. A person who worked for a filter manufacturer said the input side of pleated filters contains lots of small 'bits' of material that can come off. Forget what the 'bits' were but it didn't sound healthy and he didn't recommed using them for that application. Just saying.
