can return air be too large?
My single floor 2600 sf house has the air handler room centrally located with 2 floor level wall registers: one in the hallway leading to the bedrooms and one in the living room.
The hallway register is 400 sq in and the living room is 240 sq in. The air handler is a Goodman aruf486016ba with capacity on high of 1985 cfm.
I'm considering replacing the current solid door with a louvered door which would add, at a minimum, another 800 sq in of return air. Is that too much of a good thing?
The unit is mounted on a 36 in square pedestal with 3 12x30 filters. I am also considering raising the pedestal so I can use filters on the order of 20x30 just to be less restrictive. Opinions?
Shouldn't be a problem. Although it will probably give you better return. Its doubtfull that your supply is big enough that it would allow for too much air flow.
