Can I use differrent manufacturer for the evaporator coil?

Hi,

I really appreciated if you can help me on this. My house was built on 2004. I got a freon leak and it is really bad and the leak is from evaporator coil. I got two quotes from the AC installer and they are $2700 and $2400 for a new 5 ton carrier evaporator coil replacement. This is way too high for me. I wonder can I use differrent manufacturer coil for a low price.

Here is my system info:
- Carrier 4 ton Condesor with Model: 38EZG048 & Product: 38EZG048300
- Carrier 5 ton evaporator coil with Model: CK3BXA060

I am thinking to replace the evaporator coid with this one:
- Carrier 5 ton Evaporator coil: CNPH6024ACA; CNPH6024ACAABAA

Do you know where I can buy a cheap price for evaporator coil.

Can I use differrent manufacturer for the evaporator coil?

Oh by the way, I was quote for a new 5 ton Carrier evaporator coil for $840 (Tax included). This is a quote for part only. For part and labor, the quote are $2400 and $2700. Is this way expensive for part only? For part and labor, I think it is way expensive.

you can get away with using a different manufacturer, you just have to make sure the piston is sized correctly. I would recommend going for a coil with a tx valve on it though over piston.
I don't find the coil price too expensive, Carrier parts are generally more expensive.

Carrier is very very proud of their coils. They come with a big price tag.

Thanks for the replies. I got another quote and I think this quote is reasonable. $1150 for replacing with Payne Evaporator coil (10 years Warranty) or $1500 with Carrier Evaporator Coil (5 years warnt). I think I go with Payne.
