Can I use an a/c evaporator A coil with a Heat Pump condenser?

my 20 year old carrier 2.5 ton a/c condenser unit is bad. I can get a "hardly used" 8 year old 2.5 carrier HEAT PUMP condenser nearly free, just to get thru this summer (want to replace everything in the fall or next spring after some construction).

what are the chances this can be used with my existing A/C evaporator A coil for a/c-only operation ? I'm not too concerned with perfect efficiency at this point, obviously, just need a 1 season solution and I know a guy who knows a guy who would install it for for a case of beer and a fishing trip :-), but he is not available this week to ask this question, and I have to jump to get this unit.

Thanks!

Would almost need model numbers of both the old coil, and the 7 year old outdoor unit, to make a guess.

Go for it what do you have to loose????

Should get you through the summer as long as the coil is the same tonnage as the outdoor unit.

Not possible. The ac coil is sized for ac only and the design criteria for a hp coil is diff than an ac. Rows of tubes, fin spacing, press drop.

I knew you were going for this one, please read the question again, he was asking for the summer. 21/2 ton will work with a 21/2 ton condensing unit. It is a matched set, it has to work. Remember read the question, all apologies accepted. Thanks for not banning me.

Hey if you are into mismatching knock yourself out.

I was quite aware of what was posted. A 2 1/2 to coil on one mfg condenser might do two tons or less. Conversely, it might do three tons on another.

That's why it's called "Nominal tonnage".

Go read a design manual 'ya hack.

Look here King Hack the guy is using the unit for a couple months then replacing it with a matched set.
It's a freebie for the summer, what's wrong with you
Besides your picture.?? So if is a little up or down Eng wise the pressures might be off a little bit no biggie.
I say use it and knock off your nominal engineering Baloney. YOU ARE

And if he follows your advice and just throws any old evap in there are gonna repair it when it either floods back and slugs the comp or fires from under or over pressure?

Jesus Christ I am glad you don't work my area! I'd be cleaning up after you!

The coil needs to be matched to the HP.

If you are going to repair a system then do it right the first time. Don't hack the job

On another note is there any way to get IN-Sultin locked off this site. What a num-nut.

Sounds like your doing Refrigeration work with horsepower. What we are talking about is a temporary unit freebie for a couple months then throwaway.
Why do you call me names I never called you any, besides I'd rather take advise from an apprentice than a plumber. Why should I get thrown off ?? You guys need to get some common sense.
