Can I connect Honeywell Vision PRO 8000 (1 Heat/ 1 cool) to a Heat Pump w/aux for heat coils?
I have attempted installation of VP 8000 (prev. used with gas pack) to Heat Pump which existing wall wiring includes wire for aux (heat coils). The VP 8000 does not have 'aux' connection. My preference is not to use the heat coils anyway, as I have other sources of home heating and like the flexibility to lower temp at night by 5 degrees and can wait the extra time for heat pump to raise temp in the AM. However, after installing the V PRO, the heat pump is not coming on when I raise the thermo above existing heat, even tho I can hear the V PRO click and indicate Heat On. I can only assume there is some limitation by the heat pump by not having the white (aux) wire connected at the V Pro. Help please.

If you are not going to use back up heat then yes you can use a th8110. But if you want to use backup heat then you need a TH8220 or higher stat. The limitation will be that the HP will only continue heating the home until you reach the thermal balance point of the home vs the outside temp.

Only problem I see is when the unit goes into defrost mode you will be getting cold air with the possibility of your indoor coils freezing.

The indoor temp is not low enough, nor does the unit run in defrost long enough for the indoor coil to freeze up. thousands of homes here in the southwest dont even have auxillary heat added to them. |

See if setup step 350 is available. If it is and the outside temp. is lower than the lockout set point the compressor wont come on and without axillary heat you wont get any heat. |

The 3 models available are the TH8110 (1 heat/1cool),
TH8320 (up to 3 heat/2 cool) and TH8321 (up to 3 heat/2 cool with humidity display and optional overcool to dehumidify) . The shaded areas are only available with the TH8320 and TH8321. Option 350 is only available with the TH8320 and TH8321. (The picture shows this information) If this is a TH8320 or a TH8321 set option 170 to 7. The OP posted that this is a 1 heat/1 cool stat in the original post. |
