You need to give people alot more info than that. Where are you located? How old is the house? Just built? Did you get it inspected before you bought it? How is the house heated, how old is your heating system. how many vents or returns do you have in the room or radiators. What are the levels of insulation in the home? Attic, walls, cathedral ceiling? Is the room over a concrete slab or an unheated basement. How many exterior walls does it have. Is the room super far from the heating system? etc etc.

it is typical for high ceilings to pull on the heat being sent into a living room add a couple of big windows and it seems there is no heating going on.more info will give us an idea on what to suggest, does that fireplace have room around the back of it to add a fan option if it is a newer house.the way that would work you have a fire going and fans within the back would pull air across the metal encasement of the burning section to send the heat into the living room.the only thing that controls the heat is the fan on/off and or the size of the fire going.if your ceiling was a typical 8' one you would probably have decent heating within that space.biggest question are you running forced hot air(#vents) or hot water baseboard(footage installed)around the room

I'd be willing to bed that the temperature at the top of your room is 80 degrees. You need a ceiling fan. Run it on slow reverse in the winter. Probably solve all your problems.

if you have a big bow window in that room a thermal curtain say Bailie style vertical blinds....especially if the sun heat hits the windows during the day it will get trapped within the glass and the blind to keep it warm.that would be one less load on the i register room.keep in miind heat rises so with the heat running and it cold outside some night get up on a 6' ladder in the middle of the living room an feel if there is heat building up in the hi ends of the ceiling.
