a/c unit tripping

Does it end up in the soft reset middle position where you have to push it to off and then on. Or does it hard trip to the complete off position, Soft trip is from too much amperage draw. Hard trip is usually a dead short. Low voltage, loose or burnt wires etc inside the unit, stiff compressor, weak capacitor. Most units have a 5 yrs parts warranty so I would call the installer and have him properly check it.

Too much amperage draw. Using too much electricity. May just be a simple bad capacitor. Do not keep resetting it. If the compressor is seized it may burn out and contaminate the system. If the capacitor is bulged at the top it is usually shot. Otherwise you need a electrical meter with a capacitor test feature. Sears has some nice reasonably priced meters with that feature. Need to discharge the capacitor with a screwdriver B4 testing it.
