A/C Transformer buzz - high pitched sound

2 Attachment(s)
Recently noticed that a high pitched sound was coming from the Heat Exchange Unit (ComfortMaker 10 years old). Isolated the sound to the Transformer that is connected to the door switch.

Transformer Part Number: HQ1008782PU
115V; 24V, 40VA; 50/60HZ

Where can i purchase a replacement? Any Suggestions?
Does anyone know if this is common over time to have a high pitched noise?

The sound you are hearing is usually caused by loose laminations on the transformer core, but is sometimes caused by the housing holding the laminations. The fix is the same for both. During manufacture these parts are held together with varnish. Now that it is difficult to get at these pieces, you need something that is more viscous than varnish.
I prefer a lacquer (any brand is fine) in a spray can. Then I use a long nozzle that can direct the spray (like those on WD-40 cans). Direct the spray into those hard to get to places, let it dry, and re-install.

try your local GRAINGERS www.grainger.com thats a manufacturers TR with the slip connectors he ones they sell will match your 115V/24V 40 VA but you will have to cut the wires to match them up it will have a multi primary 115/208/460 the secondary will be a straight 24V...$12.00 on the website

bobvanhalder

thank you for your marvelous recommendation!

I did exactly as you wrote: "I prefer a lacquer in a spray can. Then I use a long nozzle that can direct the spray (like those on WD-40 cans). Direct the spray into those hard to get to places, let it dry, and re-install"

The high pitched buzz sound is no longer. It is very quiet! and saved me in the pocket book.

Thank you all for your participation in this forum.

Maybe that is the same problem I am having with my Nordyne electric furnace. What kind of lacquer did you use? My Nordyne starts a loud humming noise after it has been on for 5 or 10 mins.

Just used "rustoleum" spray lacquer
