A/C only shuts off for a few seconds...

I need help...

What a day this has been. Yesterday my 6 year old a/c stops working, so I called a repair guy. The compressor and fan were running but the unit wouldnt cool under 80. The repair guy said I had a restriction and gave me the option to try and clear it or install and whole new system. I called another company for a second opinion. Repair guy 2 came out and said that it wasnt a restriction but that had bad valves in the compressor and that it was shot. Said I could repalce the compressor or go for a new Puron system.

I opted to replace the whole system, was quoted $3500 for a 3.5 ton, 13 seer Carrier Puron system. They came out the next day and installed . I then get a call from the owner of the company, while the guys were still outside...appearently they installed the wrong system, and what I got was a 13 seer, 3.5 ton r22 unit instead. They are now giving me the option to keep what I have and give me a 10/10/10 warranty instead of the 10/5/1 or replace the install with what I had ordered. Is this a bait and switch? What should I do?

They give me the choice to sleep on it and I havent paid a dime yet. However I seem to be already having problems and am not happy with this upgrade.

They finish the install around 2 and at that time my house was at 87 degrees inside and 93 outside. It took 4-5 hours to drop the air inside back down to 80 degrees in a 1800 sq ft, 2 story home. Does that sound right? Also, the a/c doesnt seem to want to stay off once it reaches the set temp on the digital thermometor. The a/c has bascially been running for 7 hours straight. Once it reaches the target temp, it will shut off and within a few minutes, the temp goes up a degree and the a/c comes right back on. What in the world is going on?

Get what you agreed to pay for. Your never gonna trust it now.

Sounds like they have a couple components crossed.

could it be that they also gave me the wrong tonage unit? Can you tell the tonage by the model number? It seems the 3.5 ton unit is having a hard time cooling my home.

Carrier Unit modle number is 24ACR342A310.

Darn a/c just wont stop running, going on 9 hours now. It takes a long time to drop the temp set on the t/stat and when it hits the temp (78), the a/c shuts off for a few seconds, the temp rises a degree and the a/c kicks right back on. What components would they have crossed?

Could be they have a R410 evaporator and an R22 condensor.

It is a 31/2 ton 13 SEER unit. Sounds like an honest, and unfortunate mistake. You should be compensated for your inconvenience and patience.

Most manufacturers dont offer a 13 seer 410a system . a 10 year labor / parts including compressor . by itself is worth about 800-1k . but be carefull will you be required to pay for the manditory maint or is that covered two. The reality is if they didnt change the refrigerent lines they shouldnt change refregerents. my last point is 10 years of not having to put a dime into it is very appealing but will a company that makes these kind of mistakes be around in 10 years
but the good thing is that they owned up to there mistake
