A/C not blowing cold air

Okay, first let me set up the situation. The A/C had been working fine, no problems, then night before last we had a storm and the electric went out. It would come on for a minute or two then go out again. It did this 3 times then went off completely for over 5 hours. That was during the night. Then when I came home from work yesterday it was 90 degrees in the house. The air was running but not cold. I turned it off for 3 hours then tried it again, no cold air. It doesn't sound like the compressor is kicking in but not sure, so I kept it off overnight in hopes this morining when I turned it on it would work. Nope. Don't know what else to do. Hate to call a company because I know its going to cost over a hundred and I really just don't have the extra cash right now but I cant stand another night of sleeping in 90 degree weather. Any help or advice you can give would be greatly appreciated!

Turn on AC in heat mode. Let me know it will blow hot air. I'm checking if the compressor is running. ONLY HEAT PUMP SYSTEM.

ok, do you have a multimeter?

JJ just a question, What indication is there in the OP's original post that suggests that this system is a heat pump?

You're right. I should have asked him.

Welcome thill914, to the best darn DIY'r site on the web.

Have you turned the AC on and gone outside to listen to the condensor unit? is the compressor acutually running? I know you said the condensor fan is running but is the compressor?

Turned on the heat, air is not blowing hot, its the same temp of air that blows out when I turn it on cool. The unit is a Goodman CPLE24-1C if that helps.

Well now that we know its a heat pump, model number is always helpful.

The compressor will be an additional noise to the fan, kind of like a whining noise.

Take it away JJ, but it sounds to me like it could be the contactor.
