A/C hissing sound

I recently started hearing a hissing sound when the A/C is running. It continued to hiss after the A/C shuts off, for approximately thirty second before fading away. I went down into my basement were the sound is coming from. I can see a line with insulation around it, with another smaller (possibly copper) line running next to it. They appear to go outside to the A/C unit. On the smaller line there is an object that says something like "line heater/filter". I think the hissing may be coming from that device. Any idea what the problem is? Is this an easy fix? A/C seems to be working normal - maybe not quite as cool. Thanks for any help you can provide!

I do not think that is a problem, it is probably just the refrigerant blowing through the expansion tube/orifice/expansion valve etc... This would happen after the unit powers off until it equalizes. I suspect itis normal... now, if it is louder than usual I dont know...

Filter is hot

Thanks for the quick reply. I forgot to mention, I touched the thing that says it is a filter, and it is very hot. Do you know if this is normal or not? Thanks again.

No it is not normal if you are talking about a liquid line filter drier. Make sure your outdoor fan motor is working and that the fins on your condenser are not plugged with dirt.
