a/c condensor working overtime - DIY Chatroom

we had a problem a few weeks ago when our condenser wouldn't shut off and the house was getting hot. I figured that one out and replaced the old blower fan which was overheating and shutting down. Now it's all cooling the house down fine but when the thermostat is happy, i.e. we keep it set around 78 and when the place cools down to 78 and the thermostat clicks and shuts down the blower in the basement, the condenser keeps happily chugging along outside which makes a nice big block of ice in the coolant lines and evaporator coil. Anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening?

Check to see if your contactor points are welded shut in the condenser.

Did you undo any of the control wires in the air handler when you replaced the blower motor? If so, check to make sure you got them all connected correctly. The control wires to the condenser terminate in the air handler.
