burnt plastic smell from registers

A week after I moved into my apartment, the gas company removed my gas meter. The previous tenant had tampered with the meter and the gas co. thought we did it. It took a month to straighten out them out and get the meter put back in. Since then, there is a strange odor of burnt or scorched plastic coming from the vents. It is very strong for about a minute before the blower kicks on, then not as strong. Also, it doesn't seem as if the air blowing out is as warm as it was before the meter removal. The week we had heat before the shutoff, the air blew so hot we had to open up windows upstairs. The thermostat is set the same as before. Any ideas?

Removing the Gas Utility Meter, is not going to cause a Plastic Smell. Call maintenance. That is why you live in an apartment.
