Building into garage

I am building a great room/game room in my garage taking out the garage door and enclosing it with walls and windows and am wondering if I need to have any ventilation system under the flooring. I plan to attach vents to the existing heating system of the house; putting in I-joists with subflooring and hardwood on top of that. I have had some suggest that I need some kind of system in order to take care of humidity/condensation. Any ideas?

have you done,,,

a moisture test of the existing floor yet ?

No actual test. It seems to stay pretty dry except for a little under the garage door (which will be replaced with a wall) when it rains and blows from that direction. Otherwise, it's dry.

tape down a 2.0 x 2.0 piece of plastic w/duck tape for 24 hrs,,, see what, if any, moisture collects 'tween the plastic & the existing floor,,, apologies for the incomplete,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Moisture test

OK, so I did the moisture test ... and it was completely dry. So do you think I need any kind of ventilation under the flooring??

nope, i don't think you do, jim,,, still to be safe, i'd install p/t 2x4s on edge,,, then cover w/6mil plastic sheeting.

btw, is there a floor drain in the room ?

Jim, where are you located?

I agree with the above poster, I would do the same, especially if you are going to go with a hardwood for the floors.

Sounds like a good idea. Thanks. No floor drain.

I am putting in hardwood floors.

I live in central Iowa.
