Bryant Furnace Blower Won't Shut Off

My problem started about a month ago. I had the heat on in my house and noticed that one night my blower stayed on even though the temperature in my house was above what I set the thermostat to shut off at. Only room temperature/cool air was coming out of my vents. I called a friend who told me that my thermostat may have gone bad, what I found odd is that every now and again it would work properly, shut off and turn on according to the program I had set. But I took his advice and bought a new thermostat. When I took off the old one there were 5 cables, White, Green, Red, Yellow, Blue. They were all connected except for the blue one. So I connected my new one exactly as the old one was connected and it worked for about a day and then the blower went back to staying on. Also, when I took the cover off the furnace the blue wire was wrapped around itself and not connected to anything. My furnace is a Bryant brand and looks to be about 2 decades old but I'm not sure. I've attached pics of what I think may be useful and any help would be great!!!

sounds like you may have a fan relay that's sticking keeping the fan on.. The blue wire is probably a common wire. Required to be connected for some thermostats

Or a dirty air filter, and the limit is tripping and causing the fan to continue to run.

I've changed the air filter several times. Would a cheap air filter be a potential cause of this? As for the possible stuck relay, how do I go about testing it and would it most likely be behind that metal box in the top two pictures?
