Brazing Technique

Using 15% silver brazing rod. Do I still need to use flux and clean the copper surface with sand cloth ?

For my understand I need use flux and sand cloth with soldering not brazing.

I'm asking this because I'm seeing both ways in the Youtube.

I use flux, or sand if the pipe is visibly dirty or oily.

for stay silv 15, no flux is required for copper to copper brazing. i think that anything at about 15% silver or under, no flux is required. the higher silver, lower temperature rods require a white brazing flux.

No flux is needed. You don't have to clean the pipe but unless it's real dirty. Don't forget to purge with nitrogen.

No need for flux when using sil/phos rods, the phos is the flux. Joints still need to be clean.

If you use the high silver content stuff you can braise a joint in the mud

15% silver phos is used because it make a strong joint. But you still have to sand the copper.

You guys!!!

There is phophurous is the braze rod. That will burn thru metal. Adding flux just adds mor contaiminants to the system.

If you are going from copper to steel you should use 45% silver, but 15% and stay silv flux will do it up.
