Boiler Not Working, Just Makes a Buzzing Noise

I moved into my new house about three weeks ago. It has a 30 year old gas boiler and I know very little about it. I've had the power switch shut off for a couple days since it's been warm. Suddenly today there was a very loud buzzing coming from one of the zones.

Here is what I did:
1) Switched boiler on. Nothing happened (it normally fires right up, and it was cold at the time so it should have). Buzzing remained.
2) Switched boiler off. Buzzing remained.
3) Switched boiler off at the circuit breaker. Buzzing stopped.
4) Checked pilot light, still running.

Any ideas on what may be going on? It seems like an electrical issue to me.

Thanks in advance!

Boiler Not Working, Just Makes a Buzzing Noise

Can you post a picture of the part that is buzzing? Or at least describe the buzzing part?

There is an electro magnetic switch that turns on the circulating pumps---that might be the cause---

Boiler Not Working, Just Makes a Buzzing Noise

When you said you switched off the boiler and the buzzing sound continued, did you just turn down the thermostat or did you turn off the boiler shut off switch?
If you used the shut off switch, then you need to use a meter to test if the shut off switch is broken or improperly wired (just shutting off the neutral).
This could be a dangerous unit to work on until you know if the shut off switch is working or not.
If you find out that the switch is working properly, then you need to look for a boiler component that is electrically connected between the circuit breaker and that shut off switch.

A buzzing sound (a separate issue) will usually be coming from a transformer/ relay or a motor.
