Question

Blower Motor won't start

I have a Rudd furnace and a couple of weeks ago I changed the filters and cleaned the unit for the heating season. Everything seemed to work fine. Now the blower motor won't start. You can hear a slight hum when it should start and if I turn the fan by hand it takes right off. I have read here that it may be the capacitor. The question is, where is this item and can it be taken out and tested without removing the whole squirel cage? Thank you for any advice.

do you have access to maybe oil the spin shaft? if it takes off when you manually spin it, it may just be a little gunked up and in need of lube.
i just oiled a smaller blower yesterday that hummed and barely moved, and after a few spins by hand, it took off fine. i used sewing machine oil.

I'll go out to the garage in a few minutes and see what I can do. I think there is a place to oil the one side if the shaft but I'll look for a place on the other end also. thank you for such a quick rereply.

Blower Motor won't start

Thank you so much. I went out and pulled the squirrel cage out as far as I could and cleaned it. I then used a few squirts of oil and so far so good. So far It is working as it should. Before I did this I turned the thermostat to fan only and it started right up. I was surprised to see how much crud was actually built up in there. Again, Thank you.
