Blower motor.. AC

My AC unit was making a loud droning noise you could here in the house from the utility room in the garage. I took off the cover and noticed the blower was not working. I thought possibly the capacitor was not working jump starting the blower motor. I gave it a spin with my fingers and it started up and ran for 30 mins before slowly losing rpm and stopping while making the same noise again.
Any ideas of what is the problem?? I'm thinking a capcitor or a bad motor, or....

Blower motor.. AC

Could be a capacitor or it could be a motor. I would try a new capacitor before replacing the motor

Blower motor.. AC

Thats what I was thinking... Is there a way to test the capacitor with an ohm meter?? Today I tried starting it with a spin but it just hummed and spin a little then stopped so I turned it off. Would a bad capacitor cause it to stop after running for 30 mins? The blower motor is probably oem when the house was new in 1975.

Blower motor.. AC

the unit still sound like a stalled motor and will not rotate the fan. So I took out the motor from the cage and ordered a new one from Grainger. Cant believe it was only 84 bucks!! What is the best method for cleaning the cage and housing? This unit has been in service since 1990 and is very dirty and feels oily. Any other suggestions before installation? I appreciate you sharing your experience and knowlege.
Thanks,
Dave
