Bleeding Steam Radiator during heating season

How often should a steam radiator system be bleed of "dirty" water?

With the sudden drop in temperatures our system is being used a lot and would take any advice on keeping it in good working order.

Appreciate any insight.

Thanks!

Hi helplessowner

It is nice to see you take an interest in your steam system. Most of the time they are put in and left to fend for themselves until they break. I always like to drain the boilers I take care of down at the end of the year and flush the system by restarting it for a couple of hours with new water in it. When it cools completely down I drain them until the next heating season. I am not sure if it makes it last any longer but it sure works good the next heating season. Hope this helps to answer your question.

Good luck
Rusty
