What would be a good weatherstrip type of product to seal up an access panel in a square duct? This panel would be opened and closed here and there so it cannot be permanent. Something that will keep air and temps within the duct. Thanks for any help. -Mike
A zone system is still the best way to go, instead of having to adjust 2 dampers everytime you want to use the basement. And letting the upstairs get cold.
A hinged trap door that measures 1" less then the width of your duct and is 1/2" shorter then the duct that swings up will work. it will block 90% of so of the air from going to the first floor.

Alright! Someone on my page. So back to the original question, haha. What would be a good seal to put around the hinged door? Some type of rubber gasket/1/4 inch roll? Thanks everyone.
I don't really mind the tstat issue. I have zones for first floor and second floor already. I would just put the heat or air on using the first floor tstat.
Doc, what would you reconfigure? And what would you do to zone it?
