Bathroom vents: wall-mounted vs. ceiling mounted

Hi, All, I am about to remodel both of my bathrooms. Currently they are using ceiling mounted exhaust fans. But I remember reading from somewhere that the wall-mounted one is a lot more efficient 'cause it only has to move the moist air less than 12". I am tempted.

What is your take between the two?

The only time I've seen wall mounted vents is in old mobile homes. There ugly and it's like having a big hole in the wall for air to leak out of.
Some of the new fans look just like light fixtures.

the termination should have baffles or a door that is activated by the fan when it turns on, so a air leak is very likely not to happen, and I agree that it is much more efficient in the fact that the "exhaust" will not have to travel far, but the air your are trying too remove is warmer then room temperature, so as we all know hot air rises, therefore the best results would be achieved from a ceiling mounted fan.

Unless there is some reason why you CAN'T mount the far more common modern exhaust fan in the ceiling and properly vent from there...
I can't see any reason to not use one (you also have the light feature).
