bathroom vent fan outlet

I am finishing my basement bathroom. It needs a fan. There is window in the middle of the exterior wall. There is no way to make the vent outlet 3ft away to any opening of this house if I just terminate the vent on the exterior siding.

Two questions:

1. Can I turn it up from outside siding and run up 3ft to meet the 3ft requirement?
2. Can I use 4" PVC pipe for this purpose?

1) Not sure, but I think u should be all right to terminate right out your exterior siding as long as there are no combustables. U say it's just a bathroom fan. How close to window, soffit or door are u talking?

2) PVC can be used, kind of an over kill. U could just use regular metal pipe as well. Up to u, they are both acceptable. Let's see what the pro's say.

OK, why is there no way to run the vent 3 feet away from the window? What size are your first floor joists?

just measured, it is about 9". left of the room is stairs so cannot go that direction. go right is also almost impossible with those drain pipes. That's why I am thinking run up outside the sidling to satisfy the 3ft requirement.

Got a code book from library. It turns out there is no such 3ft requirement for bath fan. It is for dryer exhaust.

You mean a clothes dryer?
