basement vents?

I am finishing my basement and I am going to cut in for about five vents, do I need to do a return, and if so will one work or do I need more?

thanks

I don't recommend them as it disrupts/lessens the return air movement/air circulation upstairs. You also don't want to be taking cold air from the basement thru the A/C in the Summer. A few hot air vents are usually enough and electric baseboard heaters if necessary.

Supplies in the basement without returns, can cause a negative pressure on the other floors.

In the basement. If you install a return. During the summer, close the supplies. The return will only draw basement return air, if you don't have enough return on the other floors.

Return in basement should be sized to return as much air as you are suppling.

Common mistake made in basements, is not to have enough velocity from the supplies to do a good mix of heated air and basement air.
