no, you should never take apart a gas valve for repair!

This gas valve does not come apart. It has a replaceable electric solenoid with a snap on plastic cap on top of the valve. The coil sits on the gas valve under the cap it is not inside of it. The gas valve is brand new never used, but it is out of warranty. There was a recall on this heater because of the bad coil. Anyone know where I can purchase this coil. The part # on the coil is C54450REVE J5 08-07, The gas valve is a Robertshaw 7000 and 2000DER series. I can not get Robertshaw Tecs or Reps to return my phone calls. P.S The coil has no OHM's reading. 24 volts to it does nothing.

30 years of fixing furnaces, i have NEVER taken a gas control valve apart,

I am pretty sure the AGA (American gas association) would frown on what you are proposing to do.Is the risk you are taking with your life, your family's life and possibly surrounding structures and lives worth the cost of a new valve?

Never done it. (manufacturers, distributers, gas safety board,) have said No! to residential field gas valve repairs with all manner of dire warnings for as long as I've been swinging wrenches.
