Does this fireplace have a blower?

It may be overheating

The most common cause is a pilot related lockout.
I would check the pilot and thermocouple/powerpile. If the pilot flame is small or soft then the air movement caused by the units heating can pull the pilot flame away from the pilot safety control or the powerpile generator enough to cause a lockout. Clean the thermocoupler/powerpile and use a thin tube to blow out any debris from the pilot hood. When the pilot is burning- rap the pilot assy with a screwdriver (like knocking on a front door)to see if the pilot flame becomes larger or harder. If so then you've probably fixed the problem. If the problem persists and the pilot flame still looks weak then the pilot orifice should be opened up and examined but that is a job better left to a pro.
