Attic Temp Measurments - VA

Today was a good day to get an avg temp reading from the attic, normal open sun, light to small breeze, 90F summer day for Northern Virginia. Not the crazy 100+ we had a few days ago.

I set a digital all weather (Radio Shack) air temp monitor on the floor of my attic near the entrance hole. I had another one on the deck out side. My Trane 13i 2ton system pretty much ran non-stop all day, but that's another issue.

Is there any feedback about these temps I got, too high or normal?

Time is EST, Temps are F

Time -- Attic -- Outside (shade/sun)
10a -- 98 -- xx
11a -- 110 -- 87 (shade)
12:30 -- 127 -- 90 (shade)
2p -- 137 -- 129 (sun)
4p -- 134 -- 99 (shade)
6p -- 114 -- 90
8:30p -- 97 -- 84

(haa, I'm sure there's someone to code a table, but oh well)

Thanks all. I'm still on a mission to solve my hvac, ventialation, insulation , energy cost problems.

Is your HVAC system in your attic? It does not sound like you have an attic fan. Ours comes on at 110 and goes off at 100. 137 is nuts.

No HVAC up there. No attic fans either, peak vent, soffit/overhang vent, and gable vents. You can see it all in the pictures linked above.

(oops, I just realized I put the wrong link in my post above, sorry)

There is a whole house fan, but it was not used.

When we had the 100F day earlier this week, I bet it was up to 150F in there, the vanes for the house fan were almost too hot to touch. It was actually radiating heat you could feel when you walked under it.
