attic air handler install


where they cut through a roof truss member to make room.
Is this SOP?
Is it legal?

Back in the day i would say yeah. But I think a building inspector would have a cow if it was done today.

I have come across quite a few old jobs that have given me the willies.

Both.

The jobs I saw back in the day were all solidly built homes and you could cut and sister the cut joists.

I sure the hell wouldn't try that today with the flimsy construction materials they use now..

This is the Howe truss

he cut a large gap from the piece going from 3 to 7.
It seems to me the pivot at 3 would then be pushed to the right and the piece from 7 to 4 would rotate CCW around pivot 4, so the cut strut must have been in compression.
I guess if the drywall doesn't crack under joist 1 to 5, he got away with it.

Still, I hope the HO raises Heil with the installer, and Ruudly Rheems him. Yes!
