asbestos tape


Can you paint over asbestos tape and if so what kind of paint
do I need.

This is often a hotly contested topic here.

Although there are specific mastic's made for covering asbestos tape, I think any paint will work to seal the tape. What you don't want is those asbestos particals becomings airbourne by your painting process. The idea is to generously cover the tape with paint in a way that insures that a drying brush is never dragging over any unpainted asbestos tape.

Foil tape comes off over time (especially where heat is involved) which then pulls off asbestos particals.

Paint over it, get it proffesionally removed or leave it alone.
