Aquastats

Do all boilers have an aquastat? I can't see one on my hot water boiler and I can't see any place to wire one in. What temp should it cut off? Right now the burner on mine shuts down when the water hits 145 degrees. It isn't keeping the house warm either.

Nevermind. I found it. I turned it up to 160. Is that still too low?

180 degrees is typical for hot water boiler. Do you have infloor radiant heat. If so 180 may be too hot. Also mechanical codes in many states require a secondary aquastat be installed in case the primary fails.

If youo have copper fin baseboard, you'll probably want to set it to 180.
If you have cast iron rads, 160 is usually fine.

The lowest setting and still heats the house is the proper setting.
