I just purchased a home with a dunkirk boiler system. I noticed the other day it smelled hot so i walked down and looked at the gauge on the boiler. It was reading 20psi and 212 degrees. I let it cool down and again turned the thermostat up to see what temp it shut off the burners at. Again it went to 212 degrees before shutting off the burners. Is this normal? Is 212 to high?
OK, thanks. It is a baseboard "fin" type system. Most of the info I have found said 180 is normal for most hydronic systems. I have the manual for the boiler and it just said between 140 and 240 it can be set depending on ambient air temp. Now I have to just figure out how to adjust the dial. It's a Honeywell L8148a aqua-stat and it has a serrated dial with a stop arm on it. The lowest setting on the Aquastat is 180 and the highest is 240. I think I will just set it down to 180-190.
