Aprilaire 350 duct size and discharge

I have an Aprilaire 350 installed in my basement. The discharge vent is in the stairwell leading from the basement to the living room. The return is across the livingroom on the floor.
The installer has 6" duct for both return and discharge. Is this OK? Does it matter where the discharge is located or is the stairwell OK?

I have photos if it helps.

Looks like the connections from flex to metal are linked and reducing air flow a lot.

So there is no door between the stairs and living room?

Since most basements don't need moisture added to them. Having the stair way as the intake and the discharge in the living room would probably work much better.

He did connect it to the hot water line right?

The humidifier is hooked up to the hot water line.
If I switched the humidifier around the intake in the stairwell would be fine but the discharge would be behind a couch with no chance of moving it. Would that be OK? My issue is that I can't seem to get the humidity above 40% and there is a external door 4' from the discharge. I feel every time I open the door I'm losing the humidity to the outside.

Your intake is pulling in the coolest air in the house. As far as its pulling cool air from the floor. Then its being humidified, which makes it heavier(the air) and it has little to no reason to go upstairs, Since the warmest air from the basement will rise naturally.

If your home has lots of air leaks. Which it does, or you wouldn't need a humidifier. Your probably also have more fresh air coming in your house then the humidifier can handle. Specially with the air flow restricted like it is.

The discharge shouldn't be obstructed.

But, if its not coming out strong. You may be ok with it behind the sofa.
Or, if you can pull the sofa another 4 or 6" from the wall, you would be fine with the discharge where it is.

Sooo...with all that's been said, should I flip the humidifier around to allow the stairwell vent to be the intake and allow the floor vent to be the discharge? I can get insulated duct for the discharge.
What do the pros think?

I'd switch it.
And I'd use 90 metal ells on the register boot, and at the straight pipe to connect the flex to. So that air flow wasn't restricted so much.

I flipped the humidifier around and connected 90 degree ells to the flex. I also pulled the flex tight so it wouldn't bend so much. I insulated the discharge duct. I've noticed an increase in air flow and humidity.

Thanks

Your welcome.

The 350 and 360 model both take a lot of air flow to work right.
