American Standard Freedom 80 furnace won't heat

I have an American Standard Freedom 80 model #ADD100R945D0. I noticed my furnace heater hadn't turned on in for a day or so, then I saw the upstairs thermostat was off (the power it gets is directly wired to the furnace.) I checked the furnace and saw the green light was off. I checked the breaker and saw that it was tripped. I reset the breaker, heard a short ppssst sound from the furnace. I tried to reset the furnace, checked both my thermostats. I cycled it and nothing works. The led wont light up and I can't even get a error code.

I have a Trol-a-Temp, dual zone control attached to the furnace. When I turn the power on from the breaker, I get green LED lights for Zone 1 and Zone 2. I get a yellow LED light for the purge. After a few minutes, it turns off. I turn on the thermostat and there is a red light for the heat. I'm thinking the circuit board is the problem, but before I spend about $240 ordering a new circuit board, I was hoping someone has a idea if something else could be wrong.

Thanks, Bthomp3

A few questions:

1 - Is the circuit breaker still tripping?

2 - Can you remove the access cover where the burners are and observe what happens? There may be a interlock which kills power to the furnace so you'll need to hold it closed during the start up process.

Whatever sizzled and tripped the breaker is probably finally dead. Opening things up should reveal a crispy part. Don't go throwing money at it without knowing the problem. If in doubt, call a pro.

The breaker doesn't trip, and I get power to the upstairs thermostat. There is an interlock switch that I taped down so I could see if anything is working, ie. gas, motor, but nothing is working. Thanks for the reply

Try this and reply when you get a chance. Shut off the breaker and wait a few seconds. Turn it back on and watch what happens in the combustion area where the pilot/igniter are at. If the breaker is too far away, have someone else turn it on when you're at the furnace.

One motor (purge) should start up and then the igniter should light the gas.

If that doesn't happen, look for the flame sensor (it's a small rod made of stainless steel). With the main breaker off, remove and clean it with steel wool.

Does this unit have three or four jets or a rack similar to an oven broiler?
